Zinkunie, Netherlands’ Leading Roofing Supplier, Elevates Customer Experience With OroCommerce

The Challenge
Zinkunie stands at the forefront of the Netherlands’ construction supplies industry. With 20 stores under its direct supervision and a relentless focus on the customer experience, the company quickly rose to the ranks as the market leader.
Beyond offering roofing, gutter, trim, and various facade systems, the company also specializes in custom-made building solutions like roll-click and hemming systems. However, Zinkunie‘s existing website couldn’t keep up with the high standards they set up for themselves:
- The website was not connected to other business systems
- Load times exceeded 3 seconds, severely impacting the user experience
- Lack of flexibility and structured product data impacted operations
- No ability to display required prices and promotions to customers
- Time-consuming manual order processing, among other things.
What prompted Zinkunie to look for a new solution was a need for a customer-focused platform for onboarding and self-service with a knowledge centre. With their new platform, Zinkunie wanted to provide users with an intuitive shopping experience, personalized pricing, cross-selling opportunities, and relevant product content. They soon discovered OroCommerce’s B2B features met their needs. A positive relationship with MADIA, Oro’s partner, was an added bonus.
The Solution
Zinkunie selected OroCommerce for its strong B2B features, including customer and product segmentation capabilities, powerful workflows, and self-service. With Oro and partner MADIA, the company got the perfect combination of features, flexibility, and value that they were looking for.

As part of the Oro project, Zinkunie also implemented Akeneo PIM, which helped centralize product data and enhance promotion capabilities. This partnership allowed the company to realize its configuration, product cataloging, and pricing strategy. The project included ERP (AS 400 IBM), and CRM (Microsoft Dynamics) integration.
Over time, Zinkunie was able to:
- Move most of their customer accounts online.
- Achieve tangible savings through automation.
- Establish a future-proof foundation to grow online sales.
In the future, Zinkunie plans to introduce more featured, including a new mobile application, offline recording, and longtail products. They plan to streamline inventory management by assigning stock information to each store and refining product ranges for construction jobs.
On the whole, these efforts will improve configuration and segmentation capabilities. Thanks to OroCommerce, Zinkunie is well-positioned to remain a national leader in the competitive building materials industry.
