Modify slider text,images and add js,edit HTML

Hi, I wanted to know how to change the slider images and text and the links provided for the slider images.
I’ve looked through here Customizing layout but could not find it. I also wanted to know how to edit the html code in the webpages without changing the core files, and to add custom js to the webpages. Thanks in advance.
